Kitten Adoption

Rescue and Adoptions

Since 2000 we have been providing a home like environment for cats needing to find new homes out of our current location. We currently can house about 26 cats and kittens in our center. Most of our cats have free access to the main areas of the center allowing them to choose their favorite hangout spots. Some cats must be housed in kennels due to behavior or health issues. These kennels are quite large by industry standards and provide a great deal of space for movement and play and all kenneled cats receive daily attention and affection.

Cats coming into our center are assessed for health issues, tested for diseases and updated on vaccinations as needed. We give them time to get to know us and our other resident cats before releasing them into the population. During this time we look at how well they handle petting, grooming, being picked up and carried and other things that help us find the best possible fit for a new home for them.

We do not currently accept dogs for rescue due to lack of acceptable housing. See our Resources page for local dog rescues.

How to submit a cat for rescue:

Cats coming into the center must be social and in general good health. Semi-feral kittens 6 months of age or younger may be accepted on a case by case basis and adult semi-feral cats may be accepted only if social and are approved by the Center Manager. We only accept cats by appointment. Please call before coming in as we may not have space to accept your cat at this time.

If we do accept your cat into the center please collect any health records including rabies tags, vaccination history and microchip registration if a chip has been implanted. Bring some of whatever kind of foods the cat is currently eating and any toys, beds or other supplies that may help your cat feel a bit more comfortable during their transition.

We consider ourselves a no kill shelter. We do not euthanize due to lack of space, coat color, personality or breed of the cat. The only acceptable euthanasia is for humane reasons to relieve intractable pain and suffering. Due to this we may not be able to accept your cat immediately and we do maintain a wait list for our rescue program.

Donations are accepted to help cover the cost of medical care and feeding.

Please call (360) 373-7043 to discuss your cat’s situation before coming in.

Adoptions:

Our adoption process is very simple. We do adoption tours and counseling on all days we are open. We will ask some basic questions about your home, family and previous pet experiences and introduce you to cats that we think may suit your personal situation. We do reserve the right to refuse an adoption based on this interview and your described home environment at all times. We do not perform routine home checks but reserve to right to request one if we have concerns.

Our cats are all litter box trained, spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency viruses, given basic vaccines including rabies, dewormed and treated for any other known medical conditions.  We do not declaw our cats for any reason unless mandated by a licensed veterinarian for a medical reason.

During your tour and interview we will point out those cats that have known health/behavior issues. We believe that full disclosure of such things is always in the best interest of the cat and potential owner. However, it does occasionally occur that a hidden issue may surface after adoption and we always encourage all families adopting from us to have a veterinary exam soon after adoption. If there are problems, please contact us as we may be able to help with treatment and need the information to help us counteract the problem for the other cats if necessary.

We require that all adoptions be as an indoor cat only. This is for the protection of the cat's health and well-being. If you are looking for an indoor/outdoor or a barn cat, please contact the Kitsap Humane Society.

Please call or stop in for more details and for information on our current adoption costs.

Please see our Kitty Portraits Page for details on our current cats or you can find them listed at petfinder along with pets available for adoption from all of our local rescues.
